Abstract

Anchoring is an important issue for differential item functioning (DIF) analysis. This article investigates how to use anchoring in multi group scenarios. A direct approach and three aggregation rules to translate anchor selection methods for two group scenarios to multi group scenarios are compared. Two simulation studies were conducted. The results indicate that the aggregation rules come to comparable results, while the direct approach has no substantial advantage over the aggregation rules. In the discussion, practical advice for using anchor selection methods in multi group scenarios is given.
