Abstract
In this article, I argue for an evidentialist view of religious belief, along the lines of Clifford's famous maxim and against the pragmatist reading of the ethics of belief. I argue, following Shah (2005), that the transparency test is best explained by the existence of a correctness norm of belief. Religious belief , if it is to be a belief, has to obey this norm.If it does not obey it, it is no belief. And disbelief is a pêrfectly legitimate attitude.
