This paper deals with the syntax of negation and negative concord in Swiss-Lombard dialects. It focuses on data from the AIS and novel data recently collected in the very same AIS datapoints. On the basis of this evidence, we aim to provide a fine-grained description of the evolution of various patterns of negation across space and time. We examine different syntactic contexts (indicative/subjunctive clauses, main/embedded clauses, exclamative/interrogative clauses, imperative/hortative clauses, etc. and several patterns of negative concord) in order to pin down the factors hindering or triggering the evolution across different stages of the so-called Jespersen cycle.
