Abstract

LARA portal is a set of open source web-based tools to help teachers develop content and a teaching environment for learning L2 by reading. The online portal has two aspects. For content development, it permits non-technological teachers to create content for ‘L2 by reading’ with a minimum of fuss. For reading, it keeps a record of all that the user has read and provides data in the form of a personalized concordance. Here, we describe what the characteristics of LARA format text are, how the portal guides teachers to convert a plain text document to this format, and how students can interact with the created LARA format texts in L2 to improve their reading skills.
