La photochimie est un domaine de la chimie qui a pour but d’étudier l’interaction entre la lumière et la matière, et en particulier quelles modifications des propriétés en résultent.

La photochimie est un domaine de la chimie qui a pour but d’étudier l’interaction entre la lumière et la matière, et en particulier quelles modifications des propriétés en résultent. La connaissance des mécanismes d’interaction et de transformation pourra être exploitée pour utiliser la lumière dans la fabrication de molécules aux propriétés intéressantes, par exemples comme de possibles médicaments, parfums ou matières plastiques. Ce projet comporte deux volets: d’une part la compréhension de certains phénomènes (ce qui permettra ensuite de prédire le déroulement d’une réaction chimique), et la synthèse de molécules complexes en utilisant la lumière, d’une manière respectueuse de l’environnement.

Abstract

L'utilisation de la lumière en tant que réactif chimique présente de grands avantages: la lumière est peu coûteuse, en comparaison des réactifs classiques, et peut être introduite facilement là où elle est nécessaire (que ce soit dans un réacteur industriel, une fiole de réaction ou un organisme vivant). D'un point de vue fondamental, la photochimie est d'un grand intérêt, car elle permet de nouveaux types de réactivité de groupes fonctionnels normalement inertes, et offre ainsi au chimiste de synthèse des possibilités accrues lors de la planification de l'assemblage de molécules complexes. Ces nouveaux types de réactivité peuvent également être exploités pour étudier des mécanismes réactionnels, et améliorer notre compréhension des surfaces d'énergies potentielles. Dans ce projet, nous poursuivons l'exploration des pistes initiées durant la période 2013-2015:a) l'utilisation de la lumière pour assembler en un petit nombre d'étapes des collections de nouvelles substancesb) l'utilisation de la lumière pour déclencher un processus moléculaire à un instant précis.
