Lay summary
The decisions taken by shipping companies, i.e. freight transport users, are influenced by the offers made by transport companies as well as by their increasingly important intermediaries, i.e. logistics companies. This project intends to study in depth their roles and interactions in order to create a behavioural model.
  • How do the modern possibilities of logistics and combined transport influence decisions made by shipping companies concerning selection of route, means of transport and choice of location?
  • In what way can these parties' interaction be applied to create a generally valid behavioural model?
  • Based on these insights, which policies concerning freight transport and choice of locations will likely produce the best ecological and economical results?
This project complements the projects by Thierstein and Ruesch; its focus is on creating a behavioural model.
