Lay Summary (German)

Lead
Lay summary

Abstract

Understanding the relationship between gender, conflict, and peacebuilding remains a crucial analytical need in an international context pervaded by civil wars, ethno-religious conflicts, and armed violence. Building on a micro-level, cross-country, cross-conflict-type analysis of peacebuilding practices in Indonesia and Nigeria, this project seeks to develop a better understanding of the way in which gender, in intersection with other identity categories, informs peacebuilding, and to influence local, national and international peacebuilders to improve their practices. Drawing on insights from International Relations, International Law, Anthropology, and Gender Studies, the project combines conflict studies with feminist research to address the gender gap in the peacebuilding literature. It seeks to enrich scientific knowledge by detailing how conflict-affected communities conceptualize and practice peacebuilding, and by probing how community-driven, intersectionally gendered practices of peacebuilding interlink with extra-local norms and initiatives. Targeting peacebuilders (students, communities, practitioners), decision-makers, and academia with specifically designed outputs, the project aims to make a long-lasting impact by disseminating knowledge of community-based peacebuilding practices to relevant actors in local, national and international fora.
