Lay Summary (German)

Die Welt ist mit schwerwiegenden Problemen konfrontiert. Die Herausforderungen unserer Zeit -wie etwa Klimawandel, Ressourcenknappheit, demografische Veränderungen, Konflikte, Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrisen - rufen nach neuen Lösungen.
Lay summary

The FuturICT2.0 initiative will set the stage for a large-scale worldwide research project to foster the scientific breakthroughs and the technological advances necessary to address the societal challenges that humanity is facing in the 21st century. The need for such an integrated approach has only increased since the FuturICT1.0 attempt; nearly all of the challenges envisaged five years ago - from financial, economic and social instability to crime and conflict - have remained unsolved in front of the European Union and the world. To put forward this initiative equals to re-igniting a unique attempt to let everyone know, understand, and decide about the social processes that involve us all.Specific areas of WP3 (led by ETHZ) are machine learning, artificial and collective intelligence, Internet of Things and its use to enable autonomous, self-organizing systems. The feasibility of the "Finance 4.0" concept will be explored, including a multi-dimensional finance system (with multiple currencies representing various environmental, social and other kinds of values and costs), the use of this framework to price and trade externalities of different kinds and effects on the circular and sharing economy. WP3 will support wide and open discussion through Hackatons/workshops/seminars/conferences, E-Publications of book(lets) for scientific and public audiences, e-brochures, movies and further dissemination and outreach activities (e.g. informative hand-drawn videos, serious games).
