Questa richiesta di finanziamento al programma R'Equip dell'SNSF e' per supportare l'acquisto di uno spettrometro di massa ad alta risoluzione e d accuratezza per analisi di proteomica "shotgun" e "targeted".

Lo strumento sara' alloggiato nel laboratorio della Prof.ssa Picotti (SNSF Assistant Professor) e dedicato per il 60% del suo uso alla ricerca condotta nel Gruppo Picotti. Il rimanente utilizzo sara' destinato ai progetti dei gruppi co-applicanti dell'Istituto di Biochimica dell'ETH e ai progetti dei collaboratori esterni all'Istituto.

Il progetto del gruppo responsabile (Picotti) e' incentrato sullo sviluppo di un nuovo metodo di spettrometria di massa, per la quantificazione di cambiamenti conformazionali di proteine coinvolte in malattie neurodegenerative, come il morbo di Parkinson e l'Alzheimer. Questo progetto  e' nato da ed e' sinergico allla ricerca condotta nell'ambito del progetto principlae del gruppo Picotti, finanziato da un"Professorship grant" del SNSF.

Abstract

This funding request to the R’Equip Program of the SNSF is to support the purchase of a high-resolution, high-mass accuracy mass spectrometer (MS) for discovery and targeted proteomic experiments. The equipment will be placed in the laboratory of Prof. Paola Picotti (SNSF Assistant Professor) and dedicated for 60% of the measurement time to the research of the Picotti group. The remaining measurement time will be dedicated to the projects of the co-applicant researchers at the Institute of Biochemistry and those of collaborators outside the Institute. The project of the main applicant features the development of a novel mass spectrometric method to quantitatively monitor protein conformational changes directly in cell extracts and its application to models of protein conformational pathologies, such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease. This project stems from and is synergic to research conducted within the core project of the Picotti group, supported by a Professorship grant from the SNSF.
