Lay summary

Das vorliegende Projekt befasst sich mit mikroskopisch kleinen, Seifenblasen-ähnlichen Nanocontainern. Diese können mit Medikamenten gefüllt werden dienen schon heute als innovative Formulierungen, welche z.B. Nebeneffekte minimieren.

Wir beschäftigen und mit der Synthese von neuen Molekülen, welche solche Nanocontainer bilden. Durch die Wahl geeigneter Moleküle können wir die Form der Nanocontainer verändern sodass diese nicht mehr rund sind und auf spezielle Scherkräfte im menschlichen Körper reagieren können.

Durch das Zusammenspiel von Grundlagenforschung und angewandter Forschung erhoffen wir uns einen Innovoationsschub in der Liposomenforschung.

Abstract

Liposomes are well established elements of modern nanomedicine. However, the next innovative boost is only possible if several of the old design restrictions are overthrown: 1. Vesicles do not need to be spherical. We make non-spherical liposomes with broader mechanical properties. 2. Vesicles do not need to be formulated from chemically stable phospholipids. We synthesize li- posomes with highly reactive surfaces. 3. Vesicles do not need to be administered intravenously or topically. We design liposomes to address medical problems such as osteoarthritis.
