Lay summary
The project concerns some aspects of the world wide research aiming to understand the fundamental laws of nature.Although the underlying theory ("Standard Model") is amazingly successful, it is not complete and has also inconsistencies. Confronting the experiments with the theoretical predictions obtained from the Standard Model should help to find the theory beyond it.A part of the Standard Model is Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), which describes the strong interactions of hadrons, like the particles protons, pions, etc. Due to the strong forces, in most of the cases, standard analytic methods fail. A special exception is the interaction of pions at low energies, where a special perturbation theory ("chiral perturbation theory") is applicable. This perturbation theory has fixed. apriory unknown, parameters whose values is coded in QCD. The subproject " Goldstone boson physics in the delta-regime of QCD" concerns the determination of one of these important parameters to high precision. The method is a combination of chiral perturbation theory and stochastic numerical simulation.
