Lay summary
The Clinical Trials Center (CTC) at the Center for Clinical Research, University and University Hospital Zurich, is designed for the promotion and support of proband- and patient-related clinical research. The research environment of the CTC is multi-institutional involving faculty and collaboration across multiple departments, primarily at the University Hospital Zurich. After several years of development, financed by the University and the University Hospital Zurich, the CTC has evolved into an organisation with significant infrastructure and human resources, extending its scope of services year by year. The CTC is a multidisciplinary unit which supports young academic researchers of all departments. It coordinates its activities with other Clinical Trial Units in Switzerland and will collaborate with the National Collaborative Center (NCC). The CTC aims to support all clinical research groups of the University Hospital Zurich and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich, focusing in particular on conducting clinical trials according to the highest international standards and the coordination of study projects within the institutions. With the financial support by the Swiss National Science foundation, the CTC will be able to build up its own financial structures and become self-financing in the long-term. The applied grant of the Swiss National Science Foundation will finance labour costs and enable the CTC in the following five years to develop a high quality standard of patient related research in an academic setting, to organise continuing education programs and to optimise the clinical trials registry.
