Lay summary
In this research project, we combine fundamental research with potential industrial applications. Thus, our project based on silver coordination compounds helps to reveal insights in supramolecular structure prediction on one hand, and finds application in the field of antibacterial coating for implant materials. We are also dealing with the role of silver as antibacterial agent on the molecular level, as well as the formation of Ag-nanoparticles. Another subproject deals with specially designed ligands, and we propose to construct porous materials with functional pores using this type of ligand. The application here is storage of hydrogen as well as exhaust gas or waste water treatment, acting as ion and water channel system. A third project, dealing with metal aggregates is intended to lead to magnetic materials, transferring our know-how from alkaline earth metal ions towards paramagnetic cations.
