ln the present work we study the electrophoretic profile and relations between enymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant defence and physiological status of shoot cultures of Artemisia alba Turra in a plant growth regulators (PGR) treatment system. Benzyl adenine (BA) supplementation led to elevation of polyphenolic compounds in the aerial parts of the plant. In these media supplementations irrespective of the drop of enzymatic antioxidant activity, the levels of hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde did not exceed the ones of the PGR-free control plants. It was also established that with the increase of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) concentration there was also increase of the levels of antioxidant enzyme activities in a dose-dependent rnanner. In addition distinctive differences were noticed in the electrophoretic profile of aerial. root arrd callus samples of the plant. Identifying the mechanisms of interactions between the enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant defence could provide practical tools for the biotechnological yield of polyphenolics with antioxidant activities of this plant.
