Lay Summary (French)

Lead

Abstract

Reconsidering our interactions with the book and beyond the book, four Swiss academic institutions (UNIL, EPFL, HEIG, HEAD) will work together to mount an exhibition showing how new digital technologies enable: 1. Literary mapping of poetry (using statistic, geospatial technology); 2. new immersive experiences of lyric (using anthologies, AR, VR) ; 3. fresh historical engagement with poetic works (focusing on English and French poetries of the nineteenth century). How can the public and the critics conceive the breakthrough moment and the issues of imaging technologies in the domains of textuality or literature? Our goal is to link the innovations with their history, as the book and its broad diffusion at the end of the nineteenth century was a kind of new technology. Many readers are “natives” of the book era (from 1800 to 2010 in poetry) and they consider poetry as uniquely related to this medium. However, they forget how this genre was anchored in orality, performance, music, voice or dance since the Antiquity or in non-Western cultures. Nowadays, the multimedia features of contemporary poetry demonstrate that we should perceive our interactions with poetry differently. That is the main purpose of this exhibition. The venue for the creation will be the new temporary exhibition space of the Morges Castle, which has scientific aims. The exhibition "Digital Lyric" will be shown from 14 February to 10 May 2020.
