This project investigates into whether and into which direction spillovers in the use of natural resources can be observed. In case of positive spillovers, policy interventions to make households' use of natural resources more sustainable could focus on only few key entry points. We will first identify relevant spillover areas (tentatively electricity, water and recycling) and then analyze whether the type of spillover we can observe depends on the way how sustainability had been induced in one area. We will then identify areas for which positive or negative spillovers seem to be highly probable. Furthermore, we will find out how different characteristics of households influence the direction and strength of spilovers. Finally, we will elaborate a "tool box" enabling advice on how to achieve a high degree of sustainability in houesholds' use of natural resources. Our key method will consist in field and laboratory experiments.
