Malgré les progrès technologiques et l'évolution économique, seule une modeste partie du potentiel de BIPV est actuellement valorisée dans le tissu urbain. ACTIVE INTERFACES permettra non seulement de décortiquer ces barrières de manière détaillée, mais proposera également des alternatives opérationnelles concrètes. Une des évolutions clés réside dans le développement de stratégies holistiques permettant de lier dans les prochaines décennies les développements du BIPV aux processus de renouvellement de l'important stock de bâtiments existants. Par la création d'une matrice de situations archétypiques et par la réalisation d'un corpus d'études de cas représentatives dans la ville de Neuchâtel, le projet permettra de développer un lien direct entre les développements industriels les plus avancés et les connaissances opérationnelles en matière de design architectural et de processus de construction.

Malgré les progrès technologiques (augmentation continue de l'efficacité) et l'évolution économique (réduction des coûts), seule une modeste partie du potentiel de BIPV est actuellement valorisée dans le tissu urbain. Il existe en effet divers types d'obstacles à l'intégration à grande échelle du photovoltaïque intégré aux toitures et façades des bâtiments (BIPV) et à l'émergence d'une réelle chaîne de valeurs dans ce domaine pourtant stratégique. ACTIVE INTERFACES permettra non seulement de décortiquer ces barrières de manière détaillée, mais proposera également des alternatives opérationnelles concrètes. Si le projet architectural occupe une place importante dans cette évolution, il demeure encore souvent déconnecté des potentiels technologiques en matière d'énergie renouvelable comme le BIPV. Pour contribuer significativement au virage énergétique et dépasser les limites observées dans les pratiques actuelles, une des évolutions clés réside dans le développement de stratégies holistiques permettant de lier dans les prochaines décennies les développements du BIPV aux processus de renouvellement de l'important stock de bâtiments existants. Par la création d'une matrice de situations archétypiques et par la réalisation d'un corpus d'études de cas représentatives dans la ville de Neuchâtel, le projet permettra de développer un lien direct entre les développements industriels les plus avancés et les connaissances opérationnelles en matière de design architectural et de processus de construction. Il facilitera ainsi l'émergence quantitative et qualitative d'une source locale d'électricité, qui contribuera durablement au virage énergétique, s'intégrera directement à l'environnement construit et sera ainsi bien acceptée au plan socioculturel.

Abstract

In spite of technological progress (continuous increase of efficiency) and economic evolution (reduction of costs), only a small part of the solar electricity potential of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) is currently valorized in urban areas (integration into façades or roofs elements). Indeed, diverse types of obstacles exist and have until now limited the large-scale implementation of BIPV into urban renewal processes, as well as prevented the emergence of a real chain of added values in that strategic domain. By studying those barriers and proposing alternative urban and architectural solutions based on a holistic approach, this project goes further and has a wider scope than the technological progress achieved so far.Urban and architectural design is an important part of this necessary evolution, but it is still often disconnected from renewable energy issues such as BIPV. In order to have a relevant impact on the energy turnaround, a key factor is finding a qualitative and quantitative way to link BIPV with the future renewal of the considerable existing building stock in the next decades. In that perspective, the main objectives of the present research project are to cross over the limits of the current practice and to develop a holistic strategy for BIPV-adapted solutions in urban renewal design processes in Swiss context.In this respect, this project will contribute to significantly advance the architectural practice in the manner of addressing BIPV in urban renewal projects. By assuring the integration of applications-tests carried out on representative case studies in the City of Neuchâtel, this project will offer an attractive link between the development of industrial elements and the generation of operational knowledge directly integrated into new adapted solutions. It represents a strategic potential in terms of transferability and will have positive repercussions for the urban, architectural and constructive design practices. The project will thus bring the Swiss PV scientific community to an internationally unprecedented competitive position.
