Lay summary
One of the grand challanges of the information-age is to intelligently cope with the increasing amount of information we are confronted with. Due to increasing bandwidth, image information is becoming available in large amounts. Especially 3D image databases, as used in CAD/CAM applications or in Virtual Reality environments e.g., are becoming even more important in future applications. To intelligently support the retrieval of the desired information in 3D image databases is the goal of this project. In contrast to textual key word search, methods for retrieval by 3D image content are to be developed.
