Abstract

The Pauli Center for Theoretical Studies aims to foster teaching and research in theoretical physics and related areas in the Zürich area. Its purpose is to encourage scientists from all over the world to come to Zürich, to interact with local scientists, and to enrich the graduate education. It is jointly organised by research institutes at ETH Zürich and the University of Zürich.More specifically the Pauli Center organises thematic programs, conferences and workshops. It also invites scientists to come to Zürich for collaborative visits and to teach graduate courses. Topics that will be covered are mathematical physics including string theory, astrophysics and cosmology, particle theory, condensed matter physics, quantum information theory and computational science. This proposal outlines activities involving visitors from abroad who are specialists in these areas. The Pauli Center has organised on average five workshops or conferences a year in recent times. The Center has also hosted a large number of high profile visitors, see the website http://www.paulicenter.ch/ for an account of past, present and future activities.
