Lay Summary (French)

Lead

Abstract

TURF: Teaching University Research in French at high-schools aims to establish contact between state of the art university research in French and high-school students in German-speaking Switzerland by means of the medieval animal. In order to increase their interest for the French language and culture, medieval but also modern, the project will use animal lore, a topic on which today’s teenagers already have a certain knowledge. However, although teenagers can relate to those animals, they are mostly not aware where that knowledge comes from and how it was transmitted from the Middle Ages onwards. In order to facilitate the teachers’ task in strengthening their students’ interest, the project will provide teacher’s materials, organise workshops and offer support during a work-week or project-week dedicated to the animal in medieval literature (Kultur- or Projektwoche an instrument most of Swiss Gymnasiums [high-schools] offer their students). Ultimately, the project aim is to raise awareness for the value of knowledge, the treasures hidden in libraries and, ideally, to trigger the students’ curiosity.
