Die Realisierung von kompakten Laserroentgenquellen, die ultrakurze Pulse mit hohen Photonenenergien emittieren ist eine grosse Herausforderung. In dieser Arbeit wollen wir die Limitationen von herkoemmlichen Roengtenlasern mit neuartiger Lasertechnik und fortschrittlichen Methoden zur Frequenzkonvertierung ueberwinden, um ausgezeichnete Voraussetzungen fuer neuartige Experimente im Attosekundenbereich durchzufuehren.

Die Realisierung von kompakten Laserroentgenquellen, die ultrakurze Pulse mit hohen Photonenenergien emittieren (d.h. bis in den kiloelektronenbereich) war in der Vergangenheit eine grosse Herausforderung. Ein vielversprechender Ansatz ist die Frequenzkonvertierung von intensiver Laserstrahlung im nahen Infrarot in den Roentgenbereich mittels einer hoch-nichtlinearen Frequenzmischen in einem Gas. Dieses Verfahren, was auf high-harmonic Geneation (HHG) basiert, wurde vor 2 Jahrzehnten entwickelt und hat seitdem einen durchschlagenden Erfolg in der Erforschung von ultraschnellen Prozessen in Atomen und auf Oberflaechen.

Herkoemmliche HHG Quellen haben den Nachteil, dass sie nur bis ca 100 eV emittieren. In diesem Forsc;hungsprojekt wollen wir mittels neuer Lasertechnologie diese maximale Photonenenergie bis in den kilovolt Bereich erhoehen, um den biologisch relevanten Energiebereich (sog. Wasserfenster 285-520 eV) und die L Absorptionskanten von magnetischen Materialien zu erreichen (ca 750 eV).  Dazu wollen wir einen neuartigen, intensiven infrarotlaser verwenden und neuartige Technologie, die eine effizientere Frequenzkonvertierung ermoeglichen soll. Ein solch neuartiger Roentgenlaser hat viele Anwendungsmoeglichkeiten in der Attosekundenphysik, der Materialforschung und auch in der Beschleunigerphysik.
