STEAMR is a 325-355GHz multibeam limb emission sounder for atmospheric research on board of the the proposed ESA Earth Explorer Mission PREMIER. In our previous SNF project we were responsible for the optical design of the instrument and developed a breadboard model of its focal plane array (FPA). In this follow-up project we characterized this FPA breadboard by antenna measurements, which allowed us to investigate manufacturing tolerances and to validated the accuracy of our antenna simulations. In a second part of this project we integrated different receiver prototypes of STEAMR in a functional radiometer testbed. We characterized its radiometric accuracy, channel response and sideband ratio by laboratory measurements and during two atmospheric measurement campaigns at the High Altitude Research Stations Jungfraujoch and Gornergrat.
