Lay summary
Fundamental research in particle and astro-particle physics is motivated by a number of observed phenomena in high-energy physics and cosmology which lack their resolution within the Standard Model of particle physics (SM). These puzzles include the origin of neutrino masses, CP-violation in the leptonic sector, baryon asymmetry of the Universe, and the elementary particle composition of Dark Matter. This request will support the activities of our group in two important areas: (1) participation to accelerator based neutrino physics in the OPERA and T2K experiments and preparation for future long baseline neutrino experiments in the context of the LAGUNA design study and R&D for GLACIER and (2) participation to the ArDM experiment at the Canfranc Underground Laboratory for the direct detection of Dark Matter.

Abstract

Fundamental research in particle and astro-particle physics is motivated by a number of observed phenomena in high-energy physics and cosmology which lack their resolution within the Standard Model of particle physics (SM).
