The 6th International Conference on Microtechnologies in Medicine and Biology, MMB2011, will be held in 2011, in Lucerne in May 4-6th. MMB conferences are highly focused and interactive meetings that gather people, who want to do biology using microtechnologies. The conference format was always kept fairly small with about 150 participants attending, among those a majority of students. Such exchanges are aimed to enhance and strengthen the potentials of microtechnologies in revolutionizing the fields of medicine and biological sciences through the development of new research tools and technologies. The past successes of MMB conferences are mainly due to the conference format (small number of keynote speakers and flash/oral presentations) but also to the high scientific level of the presenters. MMB2011 persists in this direction, since top-class researchers confirmed their venue, among those, Prof. Marie Csete, a powerful research scientist who formerly was the Chief Scientific Officer of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, and Prof. Peter Zandstra, who holds the Canadian Chair in Stem Cells Bioengineering. There is no doubt that Switzerland, one of the microtechnology cradles worldwide, is very well placed to hold such a meeting. Indeed the watch industry as well as microtechnologies began in the Jura region and it is no secret that international pharmaceutical companies as well as leading international research centers in the pharmaceutical, biotechnological and bioengineering sectors are very well represented.
