The CHIPP Roadmap (www.chipp.ch) places neutrino physics as one of the three pillars of particle physics, and strongly recommended an active and visible participation of the Swiss groups in the T2K long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment in Japan. T2K represents a key experiment in neutrino physics and its results will be keenly awaited for their impact on the future neutrino programme, in particular the possibility that CP violation is detected in the leptonic sector, by exploiting synergies with the new LHC injection accelerator chain. The present request is aimed at supporting CERN activities:

- to contribute to the maintenance of the Swiss contribution to the T2K experiment

- to support Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber detector R&D taking place at CERN and participation to the CERN RD51 Collaboration

Abstract

The CHIPP Roadmap places neutrino physics as one of the three pillars of particle physics, and strongly recommended an active and visible participation of the Swiss groups in the T2K (CERN RE13) experiment. T2K represents a key experiment in neutrino physics and its results will be keenly awaited for their impact on the future neutrino programme, in particular the possibility that CP violation is detected in the leptonic sector, by exploiting synergies with the new LHC injection accelerator chain. CERN has donated the UA1/NOMAD magnet to be used for T2K. The present request is aimed at supporting CERN activities:- to maintain the Swiss contribution to the UA1 magnet- to support LAr TPC detector R&D taking place at CERN and participation to the CERN RD51 Collaboration- to prepare for the underground localization of the CERN RE18 (ArDM) dark matter experiment.
