Lay summary

This project aims at studying the interaction between non-classical light and matter in a novel way, by shaping the wave-function of confined entangled photons. It will combine the latest advances in production and detection of entangled photons, in shaping of wave-functions and in light confinement technology, such that the possibilities of spectroscopy and coherent control will be extended into the quantum light domain.

The project covers thus three main experimental topics. First, efficient and flexible sources of wave-shaped broadband entangled photons have to be realized. Then, new methods to measure the two-photon state have to be developed. Finally the interaction of the entangled photon with matter will be measured by confining light and matter in a suitable medium, like photonic crystal fibers (PCF) or tapered fibers.

By shaping the temporal two-photon wave function of broadband photon pairs, the interaction between non-classical light and matter can be studied with new degrees of freedom, leading to two-photon spectroscopy with entangled photons.

Abstract

This project aims at studying the interaction between non-classical light and matter in a novel way, by shaping the wave-function of entangled photons and confining them in hollow fibers. Thanks to the latest advances in production and detection of entangled photons, in shaping of wave-functions and in hollow fiber technology, an unexplored research domain can be open and the possibilities of spectroscopy and coherent control will be extended into the quantum light domain.
