Lay summary
Grain growth is an important microfabric-modifying process for all rocks subjected to elevated temperatures. While in the past, major attention has been paid to grain growth in monomineralic rocks, in this study we will focus on polymineralic systems, which are much more abundant in the Earth's crust and mantle. For this purpose a combined approach of (a) studies on natural contact metamorphic marbles and (b) experimental investigations using in-situ rock analogue experiments is performed. The latter helps to gain time resolved models, which will then be applied to the natural case.Based on the expected results, we will be able to predict microfabric evolution of polymineralic rocks under static conditions for different levels in the Earth.
