Lay summary
The project titled "Spectroelectrochemical studies of functionalized liquid|liquid interface" is dedicated to the fundamental investigations of the interfacial structure and the molecular catalysis and photocatalysis at liquid|liquid interfaces. We have developed a certain experimental methodologies and achieved insightful information about both the interfacial structure and reactivity, some of which are rather promising in a number of industrially related processes. First, we have shown that thin aqueous films supported on 3D solid electrodes can be sensitized with both dyes and quantum dot, and used for photocurrent measurements that can be easily tuned by the Galvani potential difference across the interface. Second, our efforts have been devoted to the oxygen reduction to hydrogen peroxide and the hydrogen evolution at the liquid|liquid interface, as well as the molecular catalytic and photocatalytic processes. Both reactions are of fundamental importance in the context of hydrogen economy research, and we have demonstrated for this first time that these important reactions can be carried out a soft interface under electrochemical control.
