Lay summary
String theory is currently the most promising candidate for a unifying framework to describe the standard model of particle physics, as well as general relativity. Most phenomenologically relevant string compactifications involve D-branes on Calabi-Yau manifolds. These will be studied in an intrinsic string theory language, i.e. from the point of view of the string worldsheet. The aim of the project is to describe the different D-branes that account for all the different conserved charges. We shall also analyse how these D-branes behave when the underlying Calabi-Yau manifold (on which they wrap) changes.
