Lay summary
The production of final state photons is studied extensively at presentand future high energy collider experiments. To use these data in searchesfor new elementary particles, a detailed and precise understanding odStandard Model processes yielding final state photons is mandatory. Theseoriginate from two sources: direct radiation, which is calculable, andphoton fragmentation,which has to be determined from experimental data and is only poorly knownat present. In this project, we aim to contribute to the determination ofthe photon fragmentation function by deriving the theoretical tools for ameasurement from a particular observable (photon-plus-zero-jet productionin deep inelastic scattering). In the course of this project, we expect todevelop methods which are equally relevant to the precise calculation ofjet production observables at collider experiments.
