Lay summary
In this project we propose to start a systematic study of the fundamentaland excited states of the charge and spin ground states of Co as afunction of temperature and doping for the RBaCo2O5+d cobaltite series. We expect that this study will enable us:
a) To determine the charge, orbital and spin ground state of Co inRBaCo2O5+d cobaltites.
b) To characterize the spin-state and metal-insulator transitionsoccurring in these materials, as well as the concomitant charge/orbitalordering phenomena.
c) To obtain a better understanding of the interplay between charge, orbital and spin degrees of freedom in cobalt oxides.
